11 April Update - 100% Service-Connected Disabled Veterans Sales Tax Exemption

No further action was taken on House Sub for SB 434 in the final days of the 2026 session. Sales Tax exemption for 100% service connected Veterans will be effective 1 July 2026. We will advice when KDoR is ready to publish the application link. Want to ensure everyone clearly understands the sales tax exemption: it applies only to the sale tax on the purchases up to $24,000 per calendar year. I.e., spend $24,000 on items like screws, drills, and sheetrock at X store, the sales tax would be approximately $1,560 (assuming a 6.5% rate). At that point, you would have reached the maximum exemption for the calendar year. We understand the bill’s title may be confusing and hope this helps explain it better. If not, please contact KOVS.
