The State of Kansas participates in a national program called "Operation Recognition" to honor Veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War who left high school to serve in the military and did not complete their high school education.

To honor their exceptional contributions, the Kansas Office of Veterans Services has collaborated with Kansas school districts through the "Operation Recognition" program to award Honorary High School Diplomas to eligible World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans.

This gesture, though long overdue, reflects society's deep gratitude for the sacrifices these Veterans made in the name of freedom.  

Eligibility
• All "Honorably" Discharged Veterans who served in World War II between September 16, 1940 and December 31, 1946; Korean War Veterans who served between June 27, 1950 and January 31, 1955; Vietnam Veterans who served between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975.
• Residents and former residents of Kansas who left a Kansas high school early for military service.
• Those who have obtained their diploma, but entered service before they could participate in their graduation ceremonies, are also encouraged to apply.
• Diplomas maybe awarded posthumously.

Required Paperwork
• Application for "Kansas WWII, Korea, and Vietnam Veterans" High School Diploma (Operation Recognition Form)
• Copy of "Honorable" Discharge papers (World War II Veterans) and DD214 Korea or Vietnam Veterans attached to application
• Discharge papers may be requested through your local County Registrar Office or through Military Archives, 2722 S.W. Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66611. Requests submitted on Standard Form 180 (1 MB pdf) only. (Kansas Only)
